NEW ZEALAND

As per the United Nations Sanctions Act of 1946, changes have been made to export embargos, while previous updates to import embargos have been rolled over.

 

TAIWAN

Import controls applying to meat and catheters have been added and repealed.  The affected controls are inspection, prohibition, and license.  The following HTS chapters are affected: 02 and 90.

COLOMBIA

HTS numbers have been added and deleted, while default duty rates have been changed in accordance with the 2009 Tariff Schedule.  Various chapters across the tariff are affected, as well as the following products: polyesters, sodium, calcium, and valves.

 

TAIWAN

HTS numbers have been added and deleted for edible parts of bovine animals.  The following HTS chapters are affected: 02, 05.

 

IRAN

Changes have been made to HTS descriptions, Duty, VAT, and Preferential duty rates, affecting various chapters across the tariff.

ARGENTINA

New import certificate requirements have been established for certain products.  The following HTS chapters are affected: 28, 48, 51, 52, 54, 55, 60, 61, 62, 65, 84, and 87. 

 

BRAZIL

The Tariff Rate Quota has been updated.  The following chapters are affected: 15, 29, 53, and 72.

 

COSTA RICA

The Tariff Rate Quota available for the second half of 2009 has been updated.  This quota applies to the Dominican Republic, United States, Canada, Panama, Chile, and WTO member countries.  Several products are affected, as well as the following HTS chapters: 02, 04, 07, 10, 11, 12, 15, 16, 17, 20, 21, 22, and 23.

 

US

The Export Administration Regulations (EAR) have been amended to reflect changes to the Missile Technology Control Regime (MTCR) Annex.  These changes were accepted by MTCR member countries at the November 2008 Plenary in Canberra, Australia.  This rule also clarifies certain EAR controls to properly reflect the intent of changes to items that were accepted by MTCR members at past Plenary meetings.  The following ECN categories are affected: 1, 2, 6, and 7.

There has been a change in Customs Duty for petrol and diesel.  The following HTS chapter is affected: 27.

 

SWITZERLAND

The harmonized tariff schedule has been updated.  Changes to import duty rates and preferential duty rates for various preferential agreements have been made across the tariff.  The following HTS chapters are affected: 07, 10, 11, 15, 17, 18, and 23.

 

MAURITIUS

HTS numbers have been added and removed.  Changes have also been made to HTS descriptions, General duty rates, Excise Tax, VAT, and Preferential duty rates for products classified under certain chapters across the tariff.

US and EU Issue Joint Trade and Climate Change Declaration, Annexes

The White House has posted the US-European Union Joint Declaration and Annexes from their recent summit.  Both the US and the EU have agreed to promote an international climate change agreement in Copenhagen.  Leading by example, they will fight protectionism by respecting the G-20 commitments to refrain from raising or imposing new barriers to trade and investments.  Lastly, the US and EU will make determined efforts to seek the conclusion of a Doha Development Agenda agreement in 2010.

Carrier Service Update

MSC LogoTo improve transit times, the Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC) has announced that it will make some changes to its Golden Gate Service (GGS USAEC/Far East).  The route previously included the Cape of Good Hope, but will now travel via the Suez Canal.  In addition, Jeddah will be added as a port of call.  There, MSC’s dedicated feeder vessels will provide connections to all major ports in the Red Sea, Jebel Ali, and all other Gulf and Middle East ports.
